London 2012 Olympics: AuviTran Audio ToolBox in action for the pleasure of hundreds of thousands of fans

Context:
ParkLive was designed as a key venue of the Olympics, allowing thousands of fans to watch and listen in optimal conditions to different events in a natural amphitheatre of the Olympic Park.
Alongside live sporting action, Park Live featured activities such as live entertainment, short films and visits from Olympic athletes.

Some impressive figures:
·        15,220 square metres area
·        A capacity of up to 10 000 fans at a time
·        Two giant screens
·        90 loudspeakers covering all the area
·        Open from early morning to late evening, from day one to last day

Sound Directions UK was selected for the audio part of this major event, and the exciting challenge was faced with full success.

Key technical aspects:
The audio solution consisted in 80xSoundTube loudpseakers, powered via Clould VTX amplifiers, all linked to an EtherSound ring and controlled over IP through the Fiber Optic link.

  • AuviTran Audio ToolBox with EtherSound over VLAN for audio connection to distant amplifiers
  • Control of the Cloud VTX amplifiers (equipped with  Web monitoring card) over IP through the FiberOptic link

Yamaha DME 64N equipped with two AuviTran AVY16-ES100 EtherSound cards
3 x HP ProCurve switches with FiberOptic Media Converters
9 x Cloud VTX amplifiers fitted with web monitoting cards
90 x SoundTube loudspeakers powered by Cloud VTX amplifiers
